Misean na hIdirbhliana

Forbairt phearsanta, shóisialta oideachasúil agus ghairmiúil an dalta a chothú agus iad a ullmhú do rannpháirtíocht neamhspleách, freagrach sa sochaí.

Réamhrá

Cuireadh tús leis an idirbhliain i gColáiste Íosagáin i 1996. Ó shin i leith tá sé ag dul ó neart go neart.

Is deis í an idirbhliain do dhaltaí a bhfuil an Teastas Sóisearach críochnaithe acu, ceangal a dhéanamh idir an tsraith shóisearach agus an tsraith shinsearach.

Tugtar seans an t-athrú a dhéanamh ó thimpeallacht foghlama spleách an Teastas Shóisearaigh go dtí timpeallacht foghlama neamhspleách na hArdteiste.

Tugann sé deis do dhaltaí forbairt phearsanta a dhéanamh trí imeachtaí acadúla, ábhair nua agus imeachtaí eischuraclaim.

Spreagtar daltaí le taithí a fháil ar an saol taobh amuigh den scoil mar chuid dá bhforbairt.

The Transition Year programme began in Coláíste Íosagain in 1996 and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

It gives students an opportunity to make the connection between the dependent learning environment of the Junior Cycle and the independent learning environment of the Senior Cycle.

The TY programme encourages the personal development of the student through academic and ex curricular activities, whilst introducing the students to new subjects.

As part of their development students are encouraged to partake in activities outside of the school environment.

Roinnt tagairtí faoin Idirbhliain

"The Transition year programme promotes the personal, social, vocational and educational development of students and prepares them for their role as autonomous participative and responsible members of society... "

(Treoirlínte na Idirbhliana, 1994, An Roinn Oideachas)

"TY students are more likely to be educationally adventurous. They are more likely to retain subjects at higher level, to move from Ordinary to Higher Level and from Foundation to Ordinary Level. They are more likely to take up subjects which they had not taken up before."

(NCCA Final Report 1999)

"Students who do Transition Year, which encourages students to organize themselves for projects and study, seem to cope better with college."

Ról an Tuismitheora

Creidimid go bhfuil ról lárnach ag tuismitheoirí i rathúlacht na hidirbhliana. Molaimid

  • Go spreagfaidh tuismitheoirí a n-iníonacha agus go léireoidh siad an tsuim chéanna sna himeachtaí laethúla agus a léiríodh le linn an Teastais Shóisearaigh ach go háirithe i dtaobh an tinrimh agus na tráthúlachta.
  • Go gcuirfidh tuismitheoirí iad féin ar an eolas faoi imeachtaí na hidirbhliana agus an modh oibre taobh thiar de.
  • Go gcinntíonn tuismitheoirí go mbíonn obair thionscnaimh agus obair bhaile á cur i gcrích
  • Go gcuirfidh tuismitheoirí Comhordaitheoir na hIdirbhliana ar an eolas faoi aon imeacht nó gníomh a bheadh tairbheach do dhaltaí na hIdirbhliana.

We believe that parents have a central role to play in the success of the Transition Year. We recommend that

  • Parents encourage their daughters to participate in all aspects of Transition Year and that parents display the same interest in the daily activities of the students.
  • That parents familiarise themselves with the Transition Year Programme.
  • That parents ensure that students complete homework, projects and the various tasks given by teachers.
  • That parents take the opportunity to advise the TY Co-ordinator about any events or projects which would be beneficial to the success of the programme

Ról an Mhúinteora

Is é ról an mhúinteora ná daltaí a spreagadh chun a gcumas iomlán a bhaint amach sna hábhair éagsúla. Molaimid

  • Go ndeartar curaclam a fhreastlaíonn ar riachtanais an dalta agus a oireann do shainmheon na scoile.
  • Go ndéantar ionduchtú cruinn ar an ábhar atá faoi chaibidil.
  • Go mbíonn measúnú leanúnach ar bun ina mbíonn forbairt an dalta soiléir don tuismitheoir agus an dalta féin.
  • Go mbíonn scileanna nua á bhforbairt i gcur chuige an dalta i leith na gcúrsaí acadúla.

The Role of the Teacher

The role of the teacher in the TY programme is to encourage students to work to the best of their ability to seek academic and personal fulfilment. We recommend that

  • Teachers design a curriculum that attends to the needs of the student and that adheres to the ethos of the school
  • There is a specific induction to the subjects undertaken by the students
  • There be continuous assessment during the year which will help the students to see progress made
  • New academic learning methods are introduced to the student.

Ról an Dalta

Is é ról an dalta a bheith rannpháirteach sa bhliain ionas gur féidir leis iomláine a chumas agus a dhaonnacht a bhaint amach. Molaimid

  • Go mbíonn comhoibriú iomlán ón dalta i dtaobh iompair agus tráthúlachta.
  • Go ndéantar iarracht spriocanna an mhúinteora a bhaint amach maidir leis an obair scríofa, an leabhar log agus obair tionscnaimh.
  • Go gcuireann an dalta le hatmaisféar dearfach i measc a chomhscoláirí agus an chomhluadair scoile.

The role of the student

The role of the student is to participate fully in the programme and to work to the best of their ability. We recommend

  • The students give full co operation in relation to behaviour and punctuality
  • The student completes homework and projects within the time parameters set by the teacher.
  • The student contributes to a positive learning environment with the school community and amongst their fellow students
